Random Chess Tactics for Intermediate Players

Dear Students,

You may now solve more than 300 tactics using this post. The puzzles are automatically randomized and will test if you are an intermediate player (rating: 1200-1600) or better. Solving 9 out of 10 of these tactics means you are ready for more difficult puzzles. As the chess saying goes, chess is 99% tactics...

To roughly estimate your elo rating, solve ten (10) problems and see your rating below.

9-10 correct and complete answers = More than 1600
6-8 correct and complete answers = around 1500
5 correct and complete answers = around 1400
2-4 correct and complete answers = around 1300
0-1 correct and complete answer = 1200 or below

(The air-conditioned venue is very accessible via public transportation, either PUJs, PUBs, LRT or MRT lines. It is located just beside the MRT Magallanes Station)

Date : July 21, 2013 (Sunday); 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Sanctioned by the : National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)

Officiated by the : Chess Arbiters Union of the Philippines (CAUP)

Tournament Rules and Regulations :
• The tournament is open to all non-titled chess players but women titled players can join the Group C division.

• There will be three divisions:

Group A: Kiddies –13 years old and below (born on or after Jan. 1, 2000)

Group B: Juniors – 17 years old and below, non-titled youth chess players (born on or after Jan. 1, 1996)

Group C: Seniors – Maximum NCFP ratings of 2100 and below as of July 1, 2013

• Rate of play: 20 minutes with three seconds increment (Bronstein Time Control) per player.
• Mode of play: Swiss system, minimum of seven rounds. Additional rounds if needed depending on the number of participants.(Please refer to the ground rules)
• The FIDE Laws of Chess, particularly the Laws on Rapid Chess, shall govern the tournament.
(Ground rules will be posted on-site)
